Surgery and Recovery

Well I did it, I made it through surgery and out the other side! Admission went reasonably quickly after I posted my last blog post, I was decked out in my sexy gown and stockings and before long I was being wheeled away from my husband and into the waiting bays.

10 minutes later and I was being wheeled onto surgery, I remember having a brief conversation with my anaesthetist and then nothing, I don't even remember her giving me any needles or drugs or anything and I was out. I apparently was brought to my room around 1pm though I don't remember anything until around 3pm when I groggily woke up to see my mum and husband there. They didn't stay long as I was so drugged and groggy I just kept falling asleep on them.

However I do remember my husband cracking a joke after I claimed to be nauseous after my first toilet trip. According to him now that I only had half a stomach I could only be naus... yep thats the kinda jokes I hear on the regular, lucky me right??
By the evening I was more lucid, and started to really feel the discomfort of my 5 stab wounds and my drain. I was surprised though with how good I actually felt, I didn't feel much in the way of nausea and was more uncomfortable then in real pain. Though around midnight the first night I did have a little vom session, it has been my only one.

In the morning my mum and husband came back early, and mum brought me some beautiful roses from her garden. Once the doctor did the rounds mum helped me shower and get into my own clothes and oh my goodness did it feel good or what!! We went for a walk and sat on the balcony for a bit before they had to head off for the day.
I spent the rest of the day going for walks around the ward, being given drugs and drinking my powerade in sips. Once I got through most of my powerade and the Doctor was happy there was no blue in my drain I got to have it removed. Not long after they unhooked my drip and I was free from all cables and cords and it felt amazing!!!

I've been so lucky that my recovery has gone so smoothly that the doctor yesterday said I was a star and should be able to go home today, so here I sit feeling pretty great...

Sorry I got distracted by my first "meal" of chicken broth, jelly and so many drinks I have saved all them for later, the Doctor also came around while I was sipping my broth and gave me the all clear to be released today so woohoo!!! So I will sit here and slowly work my way through some of this broth and jelly, shower and get ready to make my great escape!! I will update you all once I've been home for a few days.

xx Sarah
